D I Y Audio - Shareware / Freeware / Mashup

Don't have Garageband? Can't afford ProTools or a mixing studio? NO PROBLEM!!! When I made my first album, it was with a 2001 Windows machine running ME, $40 of RAM, a $1.50 computer mic from the dollar store, and the following freeware:

Audacity - MIXING/QUASI-MASTERING [for both PC & Mac]
Modplug Tracker [PC only. Worth vetting a virtualizer] - Amazing, in use for over a decade by the underground. For making anything from beats to symphonies using basically a spreadsheet.
HammerHead - Simple and fun drum machine for PC

Freesound - A catalouging project, the Free Sound music sharing project has lots of lovely samples. CC Liscensing.

To Record Your Amazing Voice

1. the Garageband that came with your Mac, record a vocal track, slap on whatever vocal enhancers and/or background noises you'd like and "Share" the file as an MP3 or M4A

2. Windows Sound - Open your PC. Go to -->Start -->Accessories -->Entertainment -->Sound Recorder. It's there, promise. -WINDOWS SOUND RECORDER

3. Download and install the free audio editor/recording software Audacity and use it to record into your computer. Add on any background music you'd like [or not] and save the file as an MP3.
